On August
14, 1933, seven women assembled and began the formation of the
organization now known as the Junior Welfare League of Huntington,
Inc. The function of the League was then, as it is now, to assist
the needy and to help in community projectes deemed worthy by its
members.
Our goal is to provide assistance to our struggling neighbors, while
enableing them to maintain their anonymity, their independence and
their dignity. Through the years, the League's membership and
activities have expanded to meet the needs of the growing Huntington
community.
The
League depends solely on voluntary support and donations, enabling 100%
of our proceeds to be returned to the people of Huntington through the
following endeavors:
Lift Fund
Emergency financial aid & medical care
Health Care Fund
Scholarships for individuals dedicated to nursing and related fields
Holiday Charities
Clothing, food, toys & household staples provided to needy families
Camp for Kids Program
Summer camp tuition paid for underpriviledged children
Community Participation
Aid to local charities and services
